Vanilla Hammer: Retreat

The third LIMITED DUBS release is from Vanilla Hammer.

Retreat is a somehow deeply cinematic vision. Through its seven highly textured and evocative movements, there is a heady collision of wide-open vistas, close-whispered conversations, forgotten paths, and dusty ancient futures, flickering like heat scorched desert mirages.

The seven tracks were produced in a master version (available digitally) which was then re-performed live directly to the first tape. An exquisite corpse-like process followed, with each subsequent cassette a remixing/reworking of the material from the former, again directly through to tape.

Karen Gwyer: I've Been You Twice

The second release of 2012 is from the Michigan-born, London-based musician Karen Gwyer.

A heavy drift of crystal clear synthesizer swirl, impressionistic flashes of melody, and unexpected percussive patterns, with Gwyer’s own carefully multi-tracked vocals, shifting insistent from undulating blur to sharp focus, and back again - dawn hour incantations.

13 unique C30 cassettes were produced by Gwyer, dubbing the four master tracks down to tape with additional live fx.

Sculpture: Slime Code

Slime Code is an exotic particle soup of pause button tape edits, varispeed action, VU busting tape saturation, freakform noise, grazing tape loop critters, and electronic rhythms.

The music was performed live to 8 track tape by Dan Hayhurst and Reuben Sutherland (Sculpture) on 1st July 2011.

7 unique dubs to C20 compact cassette were executed by DH, and a digital edit was compiled from the C20s on August 6th 2011.
